A mature cedar was transformed into a one-off timber sculpture known as ‘The Lavender Mushroom’ for Trinity Manor’s arboretum. The piece required extensive carving and sanding and was completed as a collaborative project by Joël and Seb. It shows how timber from a felled tree can be retained, worked and given a new life rather than treated as waste.

This bespoke garden table began as a mature cedar that had died around six years earlier. Tree Matters felled the tree, milled the stem into usable boards and allowed the timber time to season before shaping and sanding the final piece. Joe Evans designed and made the metal legs and inserts, while David Gomes applied the protective finish. The project brings locally recovered timber and metalwork together in a functional piece with a clear connection to the original tree.
